VOCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS
Vocational Assessment is usually thought of as a formal assessment; however; there are many acceptable informal vocational assessments available as well. Vocational assessments can include interest, abilities and aptitude inventories and/or student and parent interviews. Although there are several commercial assessments available, many of these assessments may not be standardized on school-age students or students with disabilities. Remember this should be an on-going process not a one-time event. It should focus on the student’s strengths, interests, preferences and future goals. It can also have a community based assessment component (Community Based Instructional Data) and it can assess general and specific occupational skills.

Adhering to the transition timeline is important to establish a consistent method of reviewing, tracking and gathering assessment data and information. This will assure that the Transition/IEP Team will have the information necessary to develop measurable outcome transition goals.
